Step-by-Step: How to Issue an RFQ for Crude Oil or Refined Products
PetroIntermediation TeamBuyer Process Guides
An RFQ (Request For Quote) is your first signal of seriousness. Suppliers triage RFQs in seconds — vague ones are deleted.
The 8 mandatory RFQ fields
- Product specification (e.g., EN590 10ppm, D6 Virgin Fuel Oil)
- Quantity per shipment and total contract volume
- Delivery Incoterm (FOB, CIF, CFR, DES, DAP)
- Delivery port(s)
- Inspection (SGS, Intertek, Saybolt)
- Payment instrument (MT103 / MT700 / SBLC)
- Price formula (Platts ± discount, or fixed)
- Contract duration (one shipment vs 12-month)
